Draft Policy - Barrier-Free Physical Learning Environments

Air condition your schools. The physical environment for both students and staff is not conducive to proper learning when everyone is hot, especially for those with disabilities. Heat causes people to become tired and possibly aggressive. Teachers can’t teach properly in excessive heat as they don’t want to be there at that point and students minds have “checked out” because they are too focused on the beating the heat. We mandate heat during the winter, we need to mandate A/C during the final months of school. Having an air conditioned room or area to service the entire school is unacceptable. Imagine working every day at the Boards head office without a/c. I’m sure the vast majority would be unhappy and complaining.
